The sounds in the opening sequences of seven resembles screaming, which is a piercing high pitch noise which is enough to scare anyone. Screeching, the noise of a high pitched tape player fast forwarding so its screeches more, the sounds of dogs, industrial sounds, the sounds of a knife piercing something, wind chimes, the banging of metal, the banging of doors and the whistling of a type writer. As the sequence goes on, the sound gets louder and the amount of sound layers slowly builds up. Then finally fades out at the end of the sequence.
Words are highlights on pieces of paper, we see words such as, God, pregnants, transexual, se7en, foot and C24. At this point in the film the word C24 is an enigma as we have no idea what this stands for. Its a great way in keeping the audience watching as they wanna find out what these words mean and what is actually going on. From what you see, it looks like the person doing this task is creating some kind of scrap book or scheme, which looks fascinating.
In the sequence the visuals are in sepia, they look slightly scruffy, with a worn look to all the props used. There are various images, some of what are pretty disturbing and to those who are squeamish they wouldn't like. They are images of a man scraping his fingertips off with a razor, camera film, distorted hands, images with young children whom have black crosses through their eyes, blood, photos developing, needles, money, cotton wool, books and a few more. In the sequence the man is always referring back to this book or project he is creating.
Just by looking at the opening of this film you can easily identify that it will have a specific demographic, with possible physiological storyline behind it. The opening alone can get your heart racing pretty fast, which automatically makes you want to watch more.
